Step 5

Step 5 - Combining Edge Pieces  #1,#2,#3...#10

Here you got understand how to use the Edge Piece Series. Read my other page "Review; my 3 combo" for further comprehension.

I am going to show an example where we going to fix part of Robin pictures upper edge in the cube below. I plan to move completed left & right edge piece (Robin's left & right hair) to middle edge piece (Robin's forehead) use Edge Piece Series.

Substitution
First we need to substitute middle edge piece (Robin's forehead) with any other piece. I choose swipe down.
Direction & Orientation
Now after substitution, I identify where I need pieces to go. I want bottom edge pieces to rotate upwards in a anti-clockwise manner. I also need those edges to be FLIPPED / INVERTED. Otherwise it would not match the middle edge piece orientation. So I am placing my Green circle here. Picture below summarize what I want to make happen.

Execution

Now it is only a matter of execution. Determine first move. I imagine I am pulling the Green circle edge to move direction I want. That hints that my first move is number 1, rotation of Nami counter clock. Next is opposite plane, chopper plane clockwise. Next I reverse back my Nami rotation & then Chopper.

Undo Substitution

Edge piece series if done right gives you this cube below.  Don't forget the middle edge piece series that we have substituted earlier. Swipe it back up.

Now you are have successfully one whole edge pieces of Robin's upper picture.

Summary

  • Do NOT worry about the position of the whole combined edges yet!
  • You are free to rotate all the faces to position your edge!
  • Do NOT perform any horizontal or vertical layer movement; you only use whole plane/face rotations!
  • Use this method to combine all the broken edge piece from #1 all the way to #10
